SaiOS - In Korean, "Sai"(사이) means a relationship(친구-사이), a gap/space(틈 사이).

but Xi, Zai, Jai are not allowed in Korea. They refer to a brand associated with defective apartment construction. (순살자이 Sunsal Xi:A "boneness" apartment building built by GS E&C) Sai is OK.

I've got a new suggestion after doing more research. It would be great to keep elements in the name that show its lineage and philosofy highly reminiscent of BeOS and Haiku.

Can we maintain just a desktop environment instead of a full OS? POSIX kernels are dime-a-dozen nowadays.

Shaka444 there is a city in California named Ukiah. I know because they have a few large churches there. (I did a search on a Bible app and there is nobody named Ukiah in the Bible, just Uriah the Hittite who was a man that King David murdered.)

dataflowcodes You mean like what the Vitruvian OS project (https://v-os.dev/) is doing? It's trying to integrate the Linux kernel with code from Haiku plus their own changes on top as the desktop environment, like what you are suggesting.

I personally think coming up with a name right now is not really important for the time being. Need to decide what the scope of the project is going to be first then work from there.

In a growing community, even the name carries weight. It’s certainly not the main priority, but it helps build team spirit and gives people that sense of belonging to a family. After all, not everyone is a kernel-level nerd—you also need a voice for communication. That said, finding a name that isn't already trademarked and actually has an available domain is no walk in the park.

Atomozero Well I was thinking since I said that, you already have a good name with Spritz. SpritzOS would embody the idea you were going for with SpritzDepot in that it's everyone's software/contributions included in one place. It could simply be the OS platform on which to continue the idea you started, if that's what is decided with the project scope. I'm sure it's also a name others wouldn't mind using too, I quite like it.

I agree a name will be important, just not right now. Still worth discussing it.

After seeing the meaning of Renku it seems to me a solid candidate. It shows this fork won't depart too much from Haiku's poetic spirit and sounds good too. IMHO, we should not choose a name that sounds like pun. It has my vote.
