Sounds like a project relationship midlife crisis. It has happened to a lot of open source projects which has large enough developers and users.

It's also a sign of our time: we live in a very quickly polarized world, where instant reaction is viewed better than a slower pace, as if speeding everything is always good.

Oh, not really. I've just read fewl articles about this trend.

Some "experts" of population social behavior were saying its due to the conjunction of 1) people being addicted to not wait anymore about anything and struggling to handle frustration when it's not possible, leading to be angry very quickly, like a spoiled kid, and 2) social networks which tends to put people into groups liking the same things, and in being defined more by what they likes than whay they are and do, which split quicly communities into polarized communities who don't really overlap that much anymore.

Basically, yes.

But in order to write a full article, the "experts" had to say a bit more than just that. From memory, their focus was on Internet consequence, the many to many it permits comes with both larger and diverse "echo chambers" than before.
And the "free because you're the product" model which push people in being addicted as much as possible, like with TV in the past, with always something news (and quantity over quality).
